Rückblick

Ausgehend von 100 Jahren ziviler Luftfahrt in Deutschland nimmt die am 28. und 29. Mai 2026 stattfindende Tagung der Historischen Kommission zu Berlin das Jubiläum zum Anlass, die Geschichte der Luftfahrtinfrastruktur in Berlin und Brandenburg von den Anfängen bis zur Gegenwart zu beleuchten. Die Flughäfen in der Hauptstadtregion haben nicht nur internationale Architektur-, Technik- und Verkehrsgeschichte geschrieben. Vielmehr stellen sie als Knotenpunkte Ortsgeschichte in einen globalen zeitlichen wie räumlichen Zusammenhang und sind daher Ausgangspunkt sowie Analysegegenstand für eine Geschichte des Wandels der Region durch ihre Verflechtungen mit der Welt.

The red and yellow trains of the Berlin S-Bahn are an iconic part of today’s cityscape of the German capital. However, during the Cold War and the division of Berlin the railway systems themselves were divided between East and West while at the same time also transcending the borders within the city.
